Traditional Glogg for Parents
‘Tis the season for Glogg… a tradition warm Scandinavian punch made of red wine, spices, raisins, orange peel and sugar.
For all those tired parents out there, have this simmering during these busy nights of holiday excitement to sip on once you get the kids to bed. It is perfect to sip on while wrapping presents late at night, reorganizing house for company to come and enjoying with your husband or wife while you both collapse on the couch after a tiring day with the kids.
- 1 – 26 oz bottle of Red Wine
- 1 cup brandy
- 1 - 12-oz bottle of beer
- 1 orange – thinly sliced with rind on
- 1 slice of lemon
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 1 Tbsp whole cloves
- 1 cup raisins
- 1/3 cup slivered almonds
Combine everything in a large pot, bring to a boil then simmer on low for 1 1/2 hours (while you get the kids ready for bed, stories read and tucked in for the night). Then stain Glogg through a stainer and sit and enjoy!
Optional: You can make a spice bag with cheese cloth for the cinnamon and cloves so then you can just remove spice bag and orange/lemon slices before serving instead of straining.
